Applying the DPTE® transfer system to a Glovebox

Getinge’s DPTE® Beta containers are used, amongst other applications, for safe and leak-free transfer of highly potent active pharmaceutical ingredients (HPAPI).

In a recent project, Flow Sciences was approached by a client that needed a specialized containment enclosure. They needed to ensure the safe and leak-free transfer of highly potent active pharmaceutical ingredients (HPAPI) from one enclosure to another. The client had internal policies in place limiting operators’ 8-hour respiratory exposure, expressed as an 8-hour Time Weighted Average (TWA). That exposure would be less than 500 nanograms per cubic meter air (<500 ng/m3) in the breathing zone.

Flow Sciences’ client was already using Getinge’s polyethylene DPTE® Beta Containers (DPTE® PE Containers) in their facility. Working with what the client already had in place, Flow Sciences designed a high-performance solution that capitalized on that existing, validated resource. The Flow Sciences team created a secure glovebox workstation that incorporated a Getinge DPTE® Alpha Rapid Transfer Port to connect to the client’s existing DPTE® Beta Containers. Once connected, the Alpha and Beta components join together to form a single unit. Tightness is secured by the lip seals of the new assembly which can be opened without breaking sterility or containment.

Safe method for bidirectional transfer
